FP & background check

About the FBI background check. about a month ago i passed an FBI check for applying to become a Notary Public and i passed and everything is good and i am now a certified notary public. Now should that make me feel better about the FP background check also since i never been arrested, citied .. etc. I am more concerned about it time wise and not passing it. i know i will pass it i am just curious if since i passed before twice and once recently that my application would be more on the fast track and don't get delayed?

There's no absolute guarantee that passing a previous FBI name check for a notary means you won't get stuck in the USCIS name check system since they use slightly different criteria and search other databases.

For the Notary Public the FP check was done through the FBI but it was for the Secretary of State. I understand what you mean about a different criteria and databases.
1- I wonder if they did a name check too and not just an FP check for the notary? does anyone know if they do a name check or no?

2- When is the Name check done for the INS is it after the Interview? or is it done with the FP check before you get the IL?

after the FP (I think) and before IL.
you normally don't get IL until you get through the name check.
and it is USCIS now, not INS anymore.

Yes, if you call them INS next time, they may eat you.
1) It is awesome that you are asking all these question. You relax. FBI after a long lasting backlog promised to clear up lots of old check names which I have seen many old filers has got their name check back. I am sure they won't try to creat another backlog.
As Bob said, it doesn't mean you won't get stuck (I am sorry to say this) but I am sure you should be fine. I am from Middle east and I didn't get stuck.
So sleep with peace of mind.

2)Name check will be done with FBI same time your FP has started and after it is over they would send it back to Service Center. As I mentioned before FP usually ends after one day or so. big percent of name checks go back to USCIS after 72 hours to 30 days. but some need more review (specially if they are checking your name on an old computer P II it may take longer :D )

Not to confuse you, they used to schedule interviews without namecheck cleared but they stopped doing it. Till you name check is not clear and back to USCIS you WON'T get an IL.

Peace

FBI check for notorary has no correlation with FBI check for Citizenship... I don't think they do NameCheck for notorary background check. Your case will be sent for NameCheck rite around when your FP was done. There are many folks like you have done absolutely nothing wrong including me and still had to go through the name check... there was lady called LadyBuggy who was stuck for NameCheck for 16 months coz her name was in a class action suit for fraudulent credit card and she had nothing to do with that... her only fault was that (I think) she was sent that card too. Be positive... they (USCIS and FBI) have been actively working on the namecheck process and they have promised that by end of this year all the NC will be done in a timely manner. Only 1-2 percent gets stuck in the blackhole and there is a big chance that you will not be in that... stay positive and stay out of trouble.

a bit OT here; sorry, but i'm curious about that statement; how do you know this for sure? I mean which sources did you get this info from?
the reason why I'm curious is: I got an IL and another letter "descheduling" or canceling that IL yesterday. (the letters were dated one day apart, and I received both of them on the same day).

If what you said is correct, can I assume that my name check is done? and that the cancellation letter was due to staffing/overscheduling or other problems?

(Others here on the forum have said that they DO send ILs before name check is cleared, then they realize it; that's when they send the cancellation letter, like the one I got; but you said they USED to so that, but not anymore, huh? since when do you think that does NOT happen anymore?)
There was another poster who also got 2 letters (IL and descheduling letter) on the same day, just like I did..
Thanks a lot.

Someone here had posted the USCIS website indicating such a thing that they won't schedule Interview before your name check is cleared.

I got an interview and then I got the cancelation after 20 days. Same thing on my letter "unforseen" and then later one I figured that they had training going on that date.

USCIS officer mistakes and somtimes do things like a machine because they don't care and they just want to process the case ASAP and let the boss know, they have process x amount of cases per day and that is how you may get an interview and your name check is not cleared or for that date they are overbooked and can't get more people in and as soon as supervisor look at the case and figure out the mistake, ask the officer to cancel your interview.

Usually, if you schedule an Infopass they may answer your question or call the 1-800 and talk to an Officer not C.S rep.
An immigration officer can look at your case and tell you if your name check has been cleared.

Good Luck

+ I forgot to mention that DO doesn't schedule interview and actually the service center will do that and then then will send you case to DO.

Somtimes, you get cancel because they have problem sending you case over or some related thing. It may not be actually your name check.
