FP Appointment

I gathered from these forums that the USCIS requests that you call an 800 number to make an appointment for I485/I-765 biometrics.

However, my NOA states that "USCIS will schedule the biometrics appointment" and that I'll be receiving a notice with specific time, date, place, etc.

My RD is 8/3 and ND is 8/5. This is a marriage based petition and I concurrently filed 130/131/485/765.

So, do I wait for this appointment letter as opposed to calling in? And I'm also assuming since I received the NOAs for all the petition, that I can attempt a walk in at an ASC..... am I correct?

Any comments/help from you folks greatly appreciated!

I assume you sent your applications to the chicago lock box like everyone here did. The procedure till now has been that the NOA for the I-485 and I-765 asks you to call and schedule for your FP appt. Off late, there have been a few people here who received NOA which says USCIS will schedule the FP/biometrics appointment. It could probably mean that USCIS is trying out different things to remove the 42 day no appointment thingie, to avoid repeated calls from frustrated applicants trying to get the earliest FP appt and to streamline the process.

You should call USCIS and ask them if they accept early FP before they send out the appointment letter. If you have your ASC code for FP on the NOA, I dont see a problem with you getting your FP done before they send out the appt letter. If you dont have your ASC code, then you better wait for USCIS to send the appt letter with the correct ASC code needed for your FP. Either ways, call and check with them. Other than that, no idea, this is a new thing.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Yes, I did mail my petitions to the Chicago lockbox, and the ASC codes for both the I-485 and I-765 applications are printed in the NOAs.

I intend to attempt a walk-in soon, but will try and call USCIS prior to that anyway.

I think they are starting to do so even with people who e-file the application, I have been searching and found more people in the same situation. Will be interesting to know what trigger that change!

I am in the same situation where I got a notice saying that they will schedule my FP appointment. This is a difficult situation, because if we ignore them and do a walk-in or make our own appointment, they might not know this and still schedule an appointment for us (knowing the accuracy of their systems). So I'm just wondering if there is a potential can of worms waiting to be opened if we ignore this notice. On the other hand, sitting and waiting like an idiot is kind of aggravating..
 
Just a quick update for anyone following this thread.

I went to the Hialieah office down here in FL with just my NOAs. He was a nice enough guy but stated that the USCIS now requires you to bring the appointment letter with the date and time that they assign to you...

It sucks... I will try the Davie office, just to see if I catch a break, otherwise I guess I need to wait it out.
 
Shucks... thats bad. Try in smaller ASC's, they are more tolerating. Good Luck to you.

On a side note. Does anyone know the timeline for getting the FP appt letter?
 
I am on the same boat, and nearest ASC still 4hours away.
I don't think I will dare to skip one day work and waste on the deny-walk-in.
But I think I will try to call them first. (BTW, last time I called them, it took half hour to get a reps., so when you call, be prepare to waittttttttt)

they said if the notice letter says they will send me an appointment notice, then I have to wait, and say maybe will longer than one month.

one thing forget to ask, if any of you happen to call please ask this one.
The rule says if 90days we didn't receive EAD card, we can walk-in and get an interm one, does the 90days count from notice date or count from FP date?
what if 90days i even didn't finish my FP, can I still get an interm EAD?

90 days are from the date you receive your receipt notice. And yes if you don't get your EAD or not even finish with your FP then you should be able to get the intrim EAD>
