Former asylees are not eligible for a Reentry Permit??? Makes no sense!

I just wanted to share my recent experience with CIS NE and see if someone had the same experience. I applied for RP and submitted copies of approval notice from local CIS office as well as copy of temporary stamp in my NP (since I still haven't received actual GC). In the beginning of May I received Refugee Travel Document instead of RP. Since then I've contacted congressman's office to see if the can get this resolved. CIS NE stated that because I was an asylee I cannot apply for RP, RTD is my only ooption. I'm considering to send a letter to Ambudsman's office to see if they can help. Have you guys had similar experience? If yes, how did you get it resolved?

CIS is right. Only after you get GC, you can apply for RP. So don't waste your time to apply for RP.

No Rp For Asylees, U Apply For Td. U Apply For Rp If U Got Green Card In Ur Hand.

Study Case Gosh! Wise Up!

Let me clarify the issue. I am a permanent resident (as a result of political asylum) and paperwork which I submitted to CIS was GC approval notice and a temporary I-551 stamp in my NP. Just a suggestion, it maybe a good idea to think or ask questions before you pass any kind of judgement. In case you haven't noticed, the title of this thread reads, "Former asylees are not eligible for RP". I did not write "Asylees are not eligible for RP". Emphasis on 'Former".

I think it was a mistake, since you didn't send them a copy of "GC" but you sent stamp and copy of approval, he/she didn't know(not enough expereince).
I understand that you are allowed to do it the way you did and totally right, but think about who are you dealing with?

Unfortunalty, if you try to solve the issue, it probably will take more times from you than its worth.
If you are still insisting to get a Rp instead a RTD, it is a good idea to have your GC in hand and try to solve the issue with them.

Good luck to you.

apply for expedite RP

FILE ANOTHER BAPPLICATION, SEND THEM BACK THE RTD,

WRITE A LETTER EXPLAIN TO THEM THAT THEY MADE MISTAKE,

EXPEDITE RP TAKES 3 WEEKS,

I GOT MINE LAST WEEK EXPEDITED

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of mistake did they make in your case?

Thank you for your response. I would have provided them with a copy of GC, but at the time I filed I-131 I did not have the actual GC in hand. I waited for actual GC for almost two and a half years and just recently received it. I know that they are worng, but they don't want to admit it. Even congressman's office wasn't able to resolve it. They insist that as asylee I cannot apply for a RP and RTD is my only option. I don't feel like paying $305 again for a new RP since it was their mistake. I'm so frastrated with NE.

Mike NR:
you will not win all of the issues you encounter during life. Be thankful you have been admitted as a PR in the USA. Dont keep hurting yourself because of what happened, move on with this.

Are you traveling abroad for more than six months?? if not, just GO freely, use NP + GC.

Otherwise, if your trip will take more than 6 months, you definetively will have to re-submit the RP application.

Good luck.

how did get your NP stamped?, at POE or Local USCIS?
My GC is lost , I got a RTD instead of RP...should I carry my NP?
I am coming soon in usa

I got the stamp at local CIS office, after they approved my case. It took them 2 1/2 years to produce the actual card.

Man, to be honnest with you, I am AS6. I am scared right now. I didnt go to COP but was able to renew my NP. I have also valid RTD.

my question :
I am coming soon to the states. Should I carry my NP, what if IO searches me and finds it. can he decides to terminate my Permanent residency because of that? please give me a detailled answer. thanks you guys for answering.

Nobody can decide to terminate your permanent residence on the spot. They need to follow prescribed procedures.
