Foreign birth certificate translation

I have a foreign birth certificate and so does my wife (now a USC.)

When I file the I-485, do I need to have my birth certificate professionally translated?

I've Googled and found other people asking this question in the past few years but there was no clear answer. I'm hoping to find out what are the recent experiences that people are having with this - whether or not they did a certified translation or just had a friend do it for them and sign off, and how did that go?

it's called a certified translation because whoever is translating certifies that he/she is fluent in both languages. The translator does not need to be certified.

As for the marriage certificate, since it's issued here in the US, I can just make a photocopy?

I filed the 1485 in 2007 and I translated my BC from the Dominican Republic myself and got it notarized, and I was approved and no questions where asked. Good luck, Pam
