For those who have filed I-485/I-131(AP) recently

Hello!

I would like to ask those who filed I-485/I-131 recently (within last couple months) to share their experience how long it takes to get an AP approval. While VSC processing dates site states that they are processing I-131 with ND 08/30/2004, the receipt notice itself says that it takes 150-180 days to process this type of application.

My wife needs AP as soon as possible (unfortunately she does not qualify for emergency travel document) and I am trying to get an idea we she could expect that. I am getting an impression that to renew AP takes less time than to process a brand new case.

Any ideas or insights from the recent filers would be very appreciated!

Fast GC Seeker - wow! It looks like you are on the wave, bud! Processing times are impressing (to say the least)!

By the way, did you submit the Passport style pictures for your AP/EAD?

Did you have any LUD changes for your AP & EAD or only got the approval message?

Looks like timing for us is almost exactly the same (look below). We should keep in touch how everything is going ;)

VSC AP & EAD approved in less than 15 days

One gentleman I know, mentioned that got his AP and EAD approved (in less than 15 days) on the same day. When I met him on Sep 12, he told me that he even got the card and docs mailed to his home, so I think it must be either in last week of Aug or first week of Sep time frame.

His case was a concurrent 140 / 485 filing in VSC. Also, I initially thought it might be of one of those stray and lucky ones. But later on I noticed the processing dates were actually supporting such possibility.

I did not ask him for other details though.

I don't see any obsticles why you wouldn't get an AP - for non-emergency AP "to visit family" is good enough reason. No special letter is required. USCIS may ask for RFE but it is not very common for AP.

Just applied for AP and EAD renewal at the end of August and got it in about 2 weeks...I think the standard letter that goes with the AP forms is a letter stating that you need the document to undertake travel for no more than 60 days to your home country etc tec

While you should include a simple letter (with other I-131 supporting documents) asking to issue an AP because you want to visit your family abroad (it could be any other reason), I don't know about any 60 days travel limitations. AP could be limited to one trip or good for multiple trips (you have to indicate it yourself on I-131 form) and as long as you return to US before AP expires - you are in a good shape irrespective of how much time you have spent in the foreign country.

Thanks for the correction about the need of writing a letter to USCIS. I was trying to tell Khan_bacha that he/she doesn't need to have a "strong proof" since he/she wants to get an AP and not an emergency travel document.
