For PCC is it required to give original passport ?

I have to get PCC for me and my wife in houston.

I do not want to risk my passports being lost, does indian embasy except copy of passport ?

Yes

They need the original as they stamp it to the effect that PCC is issued. If your PP was issued by Houston, just send them the original right away, but if your PP was issued in India, sent them the photo copy now, and once the PCC is ready to be issued, sent them the original or drive to Houston and get it done personally.

you can send in the copies initially.

you can send in the copies initially and then send original once they get clearance from India RPO. I did the same thing.
