Hi,

Maybe not a place/forum to post this news but anyway!

Just was thinking what happenned to the action of US govt. and Indian govt. interaction for Social security refund for persons who came on H1B and returned home.

That is a Handsome chunk for those returning to India.

I have been tired of waiting for my GC after replying to a RFE but thanks to BCIS I am also making up my mind for India return so this thought came to me.

Any news would be appreciated. Also any Idea how this can be pushed so that those who go to India will eventually benefit from it. I know other countries like SWISS, ENgland etc have this facility.

Thanks,

Both (US and Indian) the governments will not move forward on this issue. US is thinking of removing or reducing the H1 visa and no politician is ready to submit a propasal to the senate on this issue. There is no use for them by doing this. So don't expect it in the near future from the US government.

On the other hand, it wouldn't be any use for the Indian governments or politicians to get the votes to keep their chair safe. May be they will talk about this on their next trip to US.

Are you ready to donate for their US trip ????

Eventhough Govt of India may not need the votes of NRIs , they still need the Forex....atleast to fill their bank accounts..

But the question is why will US oblige..

US is already running on big deficits.. Forget about SS in India.. People should be happy to get SS in US.

If US accepts that, then there would be atleast 100,000 Indians ready to go back home with the social security tax of about $50,000 . So it's about 5 billion dollars. It might be even increase to 50 billion dollars.........

So I don't think it's going to happen today, actually it will never happen. Even if US government pass a generic law they will include 'This is applicable to citizens of all the countries except India and China'.

WowGC, if I remember correctly this effort was put in for H1B who have returned already. That was a reasonable number and Indian govt. interest was to get the income tax on that social security money.

But if you get that money back before you leave US, they dont get that- so it was one time effort only for H1B who have returned in 2001-2002.

thanks,

ANy ideas how we

can get the SS refund.

Whom to contact in US/India and how to make groups etc?.

Guys this is a real thing and anyone of you could benefit from this effort!

i don;t think any agreement was ever formalized betwen the govts of the two countries. US does have this agreement in place with several countries where they believe a parallel social security type setup exists.
if and when such an agreement is reached and an accord signed it would help people going back to transfer their social security funds to comparable instruments back home.

Question for Kuldeepc

So currently for Govts having this agreement, do such individuals pay social security while working in the US and then transfer these funds to their home country when they return back home?
