For I751 applicants, remember to get your passport stamped!

I just want to share my experience just so other people don't get trapped in the same difficult situation.
I've filed my I751 and received the one year extension. I'm applying for a visa to Italy for vacation. I was just informed that they couldn't give me the visa unless I have my passport stamped

They basically don't recognize the one year extension Notice of Action. They only want a stamp on the passport (advance parole). This is very silly, but I have to waste my time to go through this painful process. So if anybody wants to leave this country, please make sure that your passport is stamped BEFORE you apply for a visa.

Now, question, I made an Info pass appointment to visit my field office. Do I only need to bring my passport, greencard, and the notice of action letter to have my passport stamped? Is it a simple process?

Thank you and good luck!

It doesn't apply to everybody.
I had to obtain two visas for Russia (another country known for its tedious burocracy) and they accepted the extension with no problem.
The first visa was for a trip 3 weeks before my green card was to expire. They wanted to see the extension anyways.

Somehow I'm not surprised that my country has beaten Russia burocracy-wise... :(

Just be prepared for being refused a stamp. Some USCIS offices/officers may refuse to give you the stamp.

I agree with triple citizen.. it's rare to be given a stamp these days. Some people are, but not the majority. I wouldn't count on it.

Well since i never got an extension letter and 7 months have gone by since i filed.I dont care about the stamp,If USCIS thought it mattered or wanted us to not get into trouble im sure that they would put on their website get stamp I551 to travel but they wont because they are hoping that we are uninformed travel and then have troube with reentry and or get barred, all i want is my ten year card.Im sorry to sound like its a conspiracy but it is lol.

Can anybody tell me what I should do to have my passport stamped and how they can possibly deny my request to have my passport stamped? Thanks.

GO back to the Consulate and tell them that the extension letter is proof of legal status for another year and that's why they don't stamp your passport.
Anyways, my fellow people are pretty flexible with these things.
What passport do you hold? Unfortunately, that might be a problem with Italy right now too.

That's what I told her over the phone. She said that she was the supervisor and she knew the rule better than me.

I hold Chinese passport. Italy is a major tourist destination for the Chinese and I have a great job and I own a home in New York. I don't see any reason for them to give up the opportunity to make some money from me. If this thing doesn't work, I'll just cancel my reservations and go to a different country. I went to France without any trouble. I can just go to any other countries in the EU but Italy. I don't understand where her arrogance is from.

She's probably overpaid govt employee from rome (they're all from rome!) who thinks she actually holds some power.
It's unfortunate that my parents pay taxes to pay her salary too...
Anyways, I suggest you get an email from the consulate stating that you MUST have a stamp in your passport in order to get a visa, then get an infopass and get your passport stamped.
By the way, you could get into Italy (without passport control) through France, Switzerland, Austria...

They can deny you because the stamp is not a right, it's more if an IO thinks they want to give it. It's rarely given anymore. Lots of people are told they cannot and will not get the stamp, because they don't give it out much anymore. I talk to 2 people off here who were denied the stamp in their passport and were told to wait.

Thank you. Yeah government workers are hard to deal with.

I see. They were told to wait until what happens? Can you please clarify?
I got an email from the consulate saying that I have to get an "advance parole stamp" in order to get a tourism visa. I'll also bring my flight and hotel reservations. So let's see what happens.

I'll report back after my infopass appointment. Thank you.
