For how many times can someone make 6 months I-94 extentions while in US? Is there a limit?

My B1 Vias has expired but I still have 3 months more in my I-94. Can I make extention for my stay and prolong the I-94 even if my Visa is expired?

If yes, how many times I can make 6 months I-94 extentions?

only 1 time, AFAIK. You must have a valid reason for extension. You can not live in the USA perpetually on a visitor visa.

What exactly is the reason that you need an extension of stay? The reason needs to be justified.

18 months of observation? Are you getting paid for this? You probably need to get a J-1 through the agency/institution running the research group.
