I did my finger print in last May (2002), for how long would they be valid and how would I know that have to redo them?
thanks!

At least 15 months. If it is close to 15 months, like 16 months for example, it might be still okay.

FP has a validity of around 15 months and most of the time VSC makes their decision before FP expires

Validity of FP is 15 months...But if your case is being touched and FP is around 16mos or so, it's fine...if not BCIS would send out a 2nd FP redo notice..
Hope this helps

If it was an investigation...

then the FP would have been valid for a lifetime ... (they may soon move to other tech like dna/eye print or body chips which may last more than a lifetime)

but for BCIS, which still uses the "anghoota chaap jamana" manual, the ink was supposed to go faint and become illegible after 15 months. Now even though they use compooter to store the FP, they still think that the compooter image would fade and hence the re-FP.
