Called them on Nov 14th, Nov 16th confirmed that my file is assigned to an officer on Nov 14th. Both IIO\'s told the same information. Today I called them again to check the status. This time she told that my file has been moved to the "Exam" area today morning i.e. Nov 28th. She told that the file has not been assigned to any officer according to the Computer Screen. I asked her that is this the final step b4 assigning to an officer. She said YES. She doesn\'t know when the officer is going to pick up my file & approve it. It all depends on the work load of an officer. She said it may take 30-45 days... I asked her like how come the other IIO\'s told me that the case was assigned to an officer on Nov 14th.. The answer was "I don\'t know. My computer screen shows nothing about that". The address & FP were ok for my wife and mine.

Exam Area

I think someone is checking all the files in the initial stage, or the exam area. Then the files are being "boxed" into different levels. For simple case, those with one job and no dependent for example, will go to the fast lane. That is why we see Dec. or 01 approval. For more complicated cases, like mine with many job changes, F-1s and H-1s, plus wife\'s F-1s and H-1s, is going to be reviewed more detailly.
I have seen this process in the concelor, would make sense if they are doing the same in INS.

BTW, my ND RD is right behind you. Keep us posted of your situation.

Never!!

But we will know where we stand atleast!! That is why the IIO\'s are being paid to answer our questions.. Unfortunately most of the time we are getting different answers from each IIO, which is sad. That was the reason we gotto call again and again to confirm what they are saying is true.

Hope you got your answer.

it\'s not necessary that you were fooled by anybody

I never called an IIO. But I\'m not surprised at different people tell you things that sound different. Depends on how you define "assigned to an officer", it\'s not necessary that you were fooled by anybody. My 2 cents.
