Hello All

Has any one done Follow-to-join. Please tell me what needs to be done for follow-to-join. What Forms need to filed etc. My wife is in India she has not visited US at all. My I-485 case has been assigned to an officer. I was told i can do follow-to-join only after my approval. Please tell me how to do Follow-to-join and how long is the processing time in Chennai Consulate,India.

You have two options

option a - call wife and kids(if any) here on H4 (provided you have H1 visa) and file i-485 adjustment of status for dependant(s)

Option b - when u get approved file follow to join which is a consular process and therefore your wife and kids (if any) will be called for interview in India at the nearest consulate and this takes 4-6 months after you are approved and you file the necessary papers.
 
Your best chance is if your case is not approved..

If your case is not approved, you can go ahead and get her here on H4 and apply for I-485 right away. However, there is one small risk here... If you get her here and by the time you apply for her I-485, your case gets approved then her status will be ambiguous. You are not on a H1 anymore and so she doesnt qualify for a H4 anymore and she is not in adjustment-status yet.
So while this might be the fastest way, the safest way would be to do consular processing for which you have to wait for approval of your case.

I think at this point I cant bring her for 3 months for some personal reason. Can you please tell what forms need to be filled for Follow-to-join in India. I appreciate your help all.
