FOIA, IBIS pages released in part

Dear all,

I have received the USCIS response to my FOIA request for the entire contents of my "A-file". It all looks good, except the results of the IBIS checks, those performed during the greecard process as well as during my naturalization process, have been covered by a white sheet that prevents me from seeing the actual results. I can see what requests were made but not what came back. The response cover letter warns me that a few pages were released to me in part, and gives explanations that refer to hiding from me private information from a third party. It seems to me that those pages released in part are the IBIS checks. I have the complete FBI fingerprint and name check results, both of which were negative as I expected.

It's true that I have a very common name in the country where I was born, so I am not surprised that in the IBIS database there is somebody with the same combination of First Name / Last Name as mine. Since the IBIS form has a DNR reponse ("Match exists but not related to queried subject"), I assume that the IBIS check returned results concerning somebody else. Out of curiosity, I just want to ask other forum members who also received their FOIA responses if they encountered a similar situation.

Thanks.

I got my A-file through a FOIA request as well, and I see the same thing regarding the IBIS check. This seems to be standard practice from what I have read elsewhere. Your results must have been fine, however, otherwise you would not have been approved.

I imagine that this was standard practice but I didn't read anything about that in this or other forums. Thank you for letting me know.

I wasn't much concerned about the results themselves, since I know for a fact I don't have a criminal record :). As I expected, both FBI FP and FBI Name Check came negative for the I-485 as well as for the N-400. I just don´t know what is so specific about the IBIS database that makes them hide the results. As an annecdote, I saw that they run IBIS Name Checks three times (I-140, I-485, N-400) while they only run FBI FP/NC twice (I-485, N-400).

Anyhow, thank you for your response, my fellow citizen!
