A few questions regarding entry into the US with an immigrant visa for the first time. Does it matter if I purchase a round trip ticket (I'm finding it to be much cheaper) even if I may not end up using the return portion? Also, how much time should I allow at the port of entry? My port of entry would be at my stopover since there aren't any direct flights. Would 2 hrs suffice? My port of entry would be most like be Chicago O'hare. Thank you.

Return ticket should not be a problem at all.

Also, you should give atleast 1-2 hours for the paper processing on POE, and additional few hours before you catch the next flight.

Hope this helps.

If you are connecting in Chicago after flying in internationally, I would recommend more like 4 hours. Depending on which airline, destination where you boarded and time of day, it may take you more than 2 hours to clear immigration and customs. Since you will be using your immigrant visa for the first time, you will be sent to secondary inspection. At times that can add an hour or two itself.
