First time filing AR-11

I have a question regarding form AR-11 (change of address).

I got my green card 5 months ago. I have been living in the U.S. for the past 6 years (always legally – working visa).

I never filed the AR-11 because I figured that the INS always had my current address (through all my I-94s and pending applications).

Last week I decided to file it just in case (even though the last time I changed address happened 2 years ago).

Is this fine? Or can I get in trouble because I did not file it within 10 days after moving? (I never knew this was a requirement).
As I mentioned before, I assume the INS always had my current address.

Thanks,

Suresh

Filing AR-11 within 10 days has always been the INS law even though they never enforced it pre-9/11.

Better be late than never. You'd never know when & how you could get into trouble with the INS.

Obey the law. If you are not aware of the recent INS memos, stay in touch thru media. Assuming won't help. The law is law whether you know it or not.

BTW, send the AR-11 by certified mail.
