Hi Guys,

I had a good scan around the forums, looking for this question but couldn't see it or find it so I'm posting it here hoping someone can answer it quickly for me and others:

Once you get a DV-Lottery Visa, what is the time limit on having to enter the US? How long do you have to tie up your affairs in your home country and move?

Thanks in advance for any info!

Goodluck all,
Michael

You have 6months to travel to the US with the immigrant visa to activate the greencard. However, you can go to your home country again afterwards to finish everything there. From the time that you enter the US with the immigrant visa, you cannot leave US for more than 1year without applying for a re-entry permit. Even if you stay out of the US less than a year but more than 6months, you might have to prove at the port of entry that you are indeed living in the US.

Thanks for those answers guys...much appreciated! I guess 6 months is enough for tying up most things in one's home country.
