My N-400 paperwork left my hands on the 12th of October (heading to Laguna Niguel, California). My priority date is October 14. I received the fingerprint notice later in the same month.

Priority Date: October 14
Fingerprint appointment: November 16

Hi Dusky, Kind_SD,

Please keep us updated on the progress of your application. That way we know if anyone's application is taking longer than "normal".
Which DO are you processing at? For me, it is the LA DO.

Hi All:
Here is my timeline:
PD- Nov. 5 04
NOA - Nov. 15 04
NOA received- Nov 18 04
FP Notice - Waiting
DO - San Diego

Dusky, CAapplier, what are your DOs-
Alos my receipt no. start with "WSC*", is that the case with all of you ?
No online status yet, how about you guys ...?
any ohter update ?
Thanks

Sorry I didn't respond sooner, King_SD.

My Application Number begins with WSC*. Back in early November I tried getting the status of my case online, but the status-checker wouldn't recognize my application number. I just tried it again. This is what it said:

Your N400 APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was received on October 19, 2004. We mailed you a receipt with information about processing. It is taking between 360 and 360 days for us to process this kind of case. We will mail you a decision as soon as processing is complete.

I see two (possible) discrepancies. One: "between 360 and 360 days"?! Two: the Notice of Action document that I received from the USCIS lists October 14, 2004 as the Received Date, as well as the Priority Date... not October 19.

Dusky, thanks for the reply. May be you can call 800 numbers and ask clarification about discrepancies. What city are you applying from, I mean what is your District office that would, eventually, process your case. my updated details are below.

Mahesh: Where are you...what's happening to your FP and namecheck. If those are cleared, you should be receiving notice for interview anytime soon with interview around Jan.

Here is my updated timeline:
PD: Nov 5, 04
FP date: Nov. 30, 04
Interview: waiting
DO: San Diego

Thanks.

Kind_SD, other netters,

No signs on my second fingerprinting notice yet. I am frustrated by the wait. It is 5 weeks since I did my last fingerprinting and since they were rejected. I went to the ASC and was told to wait.
I am thinking of going to the DO. Any suggestions without having to do to DO?

Thanks
Mahesh

Mahesh:
I think is good idea to visit DO and talk to officer in person asap. You can also ask him, if you wish, specific to your case such as getting police clearance certi in lieu of FP(if you are sure that second FP also wont come out right).
Good Luck!!!

Name check update

CA Guys,

I had been to the LA DO to check on the name check and they told me that it was cleared on Oct 22 (about 3 weeks from my PD).

I got my second FP notice but I am confident of not making it either :(
So I am preparing for the alternative i.e. they need police certificates from all places I have lived in the last 5 years.

Hopefully that would suffice but I will keep my finger crossed.

Mahesh

Received FP Notice

Here are my details:

Received Date: Nov 02, 2004
Priority Date: Nov 02, 2004
Fingerprint Notice Date : Jan 05, 2005
Fingerprint Appt. on Feb 10, 2005

I have two concerns about my application:

1. The initial receipt says "Receipt with Exception" and states "missing evidence" that will need to be provided at the "time of the interview". It also mentions that I will be sent a separate notice for the evidence and that it should not be mailed in but that I should bring it with me to the interview. Is this because I filed 30 days before the 5yr period?
2. They misspelled my middle name. I called the 800 number and they said I would have to write to the CA service center and request them to change it. Is this going to cause lots of problems/delays? From some earlier posts, I fear that may be true. This error was in spite of the fact that I used the fill-in pdf form they supply on their website, so it isn't a case of bad handwriting....

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Don't worry about it. I got the same statement, and so did my father. Like you, I filed the N400 before the five year period, but unlike us, my father has been a resident for much longer than five years. Sure, we must have failed to include something, but it's no biggie. My best guess, they might have wanted a copy of our greencard. I think they used to request copies of greencards to accompany the N400 petition. Doesn't matter.

Anyway, here's an update of my case:

Priority Date: October 14
Fingerprint appointment: November 16
Interview: March 7

I do wonder if I can become a citizen right on the day of the interview. I'm told that some facilities allow this. My interview is in El Monte, California.

What do you mean "they used to..."? Of course you have to include the copy of your green card (both sides) with N-400 application. That's the first thing in the document checklist for N-400.
I am glad to hear that you have been invited for the interview. My daughter filed N-400 about the same time (same district), and got her fingerprints taken in November, too. So, she might get her interview letter soon.

Yes! :) The interview letter for my daughter's citizenship interview was in the mailbox. It is scheduled for Mach 8. She is gonna have to miss her classes that day.
FYI: I was interviewed in El Monte. After the interview they gave me my oath letter. It was scheduled 8 days after the interview.

I skimmed through the instructions found on the N-400. I read part of the Guide to Naturalization and I remember thinking it was outdated. But yes, now that I've looked at the guide again, I see that it says one must include a copy of the permanent residence card. Oh, well... I'll remember this when I file the N-400 for my mother and siblings (soon they'll be eligible).

Dusky, Anahit, other CA appliers

I have interview date of Mar 3rd.
What are you guys planning to carry (or carried) for the interview?

Every case is different. So I mean the common ones

I am thinking
- Passport (old and new one)
- GC
- Copies of tax papers

Will not carry
- no court papers (no record fortunately)
- no Selective service papers (I got GC when I was 33, never been in illegal status)

Am I missing anything that most people would carry?

Mahesh

Sorry, I've been very busy. This is my response to Talbot:

I was asked to bring:
The letter indicating the date of my interview;
Green Card;
Evidence of Selective Service Registration;
Passport and/or any other document used in connection with any entries into USA.

Also bring any of these docs if applying on the basis of being the spouse of a US citizen:
Marriage certificate;
Proof of death or divorce for each prior marriage of yourself or spouse;
spouse's birth or naturalization certificate or certificate of citizenship;

Bring this document if applying as a member of the USA Armed Forces:
Discharge certificate, or form DD214

Now, to answer maheshgajanan's question:

I'll be bringing the interview letter, greencard, evidence of selective service registration (because I have one, and applied for one when I was 18-25), and my (Mexican) passport (even though it was never marked when I made entries into United States). I might also bring college transcripts to show that I'm trying to make something of myself (elementary school teacher). I might even bring pictures of the children I work with to show what I've been doing in the past five years (I work as a teaching assistant).

But yeah, that might be overkill, so I won't sweat if I fail to bring these two items. Heck, I might even throw in some letters of recommendation I asked some teachers at work to write for me a long time ago about why I should be admitted into some teaching credential program.

no Selective service papers

Were you in America between the ages of 18 and 25? I registered for the selective service when I was 18, even though I was still an undocumented immigrant. It showed good intentions on my part, if nothing more.

So I went to my interview last Monday. I took several things, but in the end, the person interviewing me only asked to see my greencard and my selective service registration. I passed the interview, and I'm now awaiting the oath ceremony appointment.

Couple more details: I was asked to write "Today is a beautiful day." I was also given about ten questions on paper, and I was to answer them verbally. These questions dealt with US history and civics. You know what's cool? I arrived to the building about 30 minutes early. I was barely entering the building when a group was being taken to another floor. I handed my appointment paper to someone who was leading us up. Once in the waiting room of the second floor, I waited about ten minutes and my name was called.

The interview itself took about ten minutes.... most of the time was spent by the interviewer going through my application and typing stuff on the computer. He didn't give me his full attention when I was answering the question: he was still looking at my papers and typing. By the time I was outside of the building, it was 11:05.... my actual appointment time.
