Finger prints for a 7 y.o.?

A friend of mine whose case is pending in TSC just received a notice that his 7 y.o. son is required to get his fingerprints done (FP Code 2) in relation to his I-485.
Is it normal? AFAIK, they did not require fingerprints from kids before.
Besides, my friend's case (I-140/I-485 concurrent, EB2, Russia) is pending in TSC since early July 2006 (stuck in name check, I guess, although he never got this confirmed officially) and he and his wife got their fingerprints taken back in July, and their I-140 got approved right after that.
Now, is this request a good sign (i.e. does it mean that they are out of name check)?
 
Seems like a bunch of people with differring priority dates including myself have gotten fingerprint/bio code 2 for our kids. Initially I was happy, but now it seems mass notice due to a new policy.

Thanks for chiming in! Too bad, he was so hopeful...
Interesting thing, BTW, is that neither his, nor his son's LUD has changed. I wonder if either one of them would change after the FP's will be done...

Same thing here. FP code 2 for the son, no LUD change. It really looks like a new policy.
 
Looks like a new policy indeed - just heard from another friend that his daughter got similar request...
 
Yes it is a new policy and has nothing to do with NC

Don't get fooled with this... nothing is going to happen after children name check.... though they have not published they started to send finger print notice to everyone.... It is not a postive sign for a green card.. sit tight and nothing going to happen... I wonder what the heck they send diff: times for this. If they send the notice for all at lease we can same some gas and time... they want make us fools..........................
 
Took my 9 yr old for her biometrics, code 2, appointment today and got a new LUD on her I-485 one hour later. The waiting game continues...

craye... how about your case, did you get a LUD for today?

My wife and I got LUD after our daughter's Code 2 today

Same thing here. Quick LUD change on minor's case only. No status change, no msg change.
 
Yes... I guess my approval coincided with the mass notice for kids biometrics. We all got status change to: "Approval Notice Sent" today
 
New development. Today we received two notices for bio code 3 for me and my wife. This would be our 2nd bio code 3. We filed I-485 in october '06, FP for me and spouse done one week later. FP bio code 2 done this weekend for kid. Anyone has had similar experience? Any thoughts?
