Filing with the department of labor before H1-B?

Hi,

Is there any kind of filing with the department of labor before H1-B is processed? My prospective employer's lawyer gave him an estimate of 3 months to complete the department of labor processing to begin to file an H-1B Visa sponsorship.

This is the first time I heard about it. Has anybody ever heard about this type of filing? Does it really take 3 months? I thought department of labor filing is a step for processing Green Card.

Thanks in advance.

Labor condition application should not take 3 months. A LCA is required before you can file for h1. Generally should not take more than 2 weeks. See processing times in various lawyer forums/ INS.
