I got my asylum approved in 7 July 2004.

I left US on Aug 28th and then returned back on Oct 10th.
Then again left US on 26th Jan till March 26th
Then agian left US on 14th June till 9 Septth 2005.

When can I file my green card since I was gone back and forth. i have called my lawyer several times but she seems to be confused and says I have to wait until Sept 2006. Please asssist

Thanks

Looks like you've been here 13 months excluding your trips since you applied--so you are good to go. Add up the days you've physically been in the USA, and count whole days, not parts. If you have 366 days, you can apply and defend it.

Oh, BTW, look for a new lawyer.

Good luck.

According to my calculation you've spent 189 days outside U.S. that is why instead of filling on 07/07/05 you should have filed on 01/12/06

Thanks Floyd,

Can you recommend any good lawyer. WHat do they normally charge for filing green cards?

No :) Some idiot lawyer told me I was not eligible for green card (because of a false claim of us citizenship) and I wasted 7 years for that. After that I did my research and applied for the green card myself.

But I am sure there are others on the forum who can recommend good lawyers. The fees range from $1000 to $3000 (may be higher)

If you have no criminal or other issues, you can apply yourself. If you are in any doubt at all, consult a lawyer. Reading your related posts, did you go back to Pakistan? Are you an asylee from Pakistan? If yes to both, I'd suggest working with a lawyer.

Work with someone who specializes in asylum cases, not just run-of-the mill immigration lawyers who may deal with work-related immigration only.

Good luck.

My lawer charged $800 for two of us(myself and my wife) but it was in 2001. Some lawers are just like sharks man, one idiot wanted to charge me $2000 per application.
My best regards kjonim32
