Filing I-130 and I-485 separately

I am sponsoring Green card for my parents. They have an issue with the birth certificate and it may take a month to sort the birth certificate issue. In the meantime, I am thinking of filing I-130 now. I plan to file I-485 later once we get the birth certificate. Is there any disadvantage with filing I-130 and I-485 separately. Please advise.

Wait until you have everything, then file it all. There's no point to filing the I-130 early, and more chances that stuff gets separated or lost.
