Filing for citizenship without green card

Can I apply for citizenship without providing copies of back and front of greencard or I-90. I recently lost my card for the second time in one year and I do'nt want to file another I-90. I am eligible for citizenship. I am told it is an alternative to green card replacement but the application clearly states that copies of these are required for filing.

Your application will be returned without a copy of green card or the I-551 stamp on your passport. Apply for replacement green card using I-90, then after you receive the NOA, go with that and ID to your local office to get a stamp. Use the copy of the stamp in your passport in your N-400 application. You will need to act real fast if you wish to see your NOA before month end to beat the increase in application fees.

I have heard many reasons to become a citizen, but doing it to avoid renewing a lost green card is definitely a new one. I've heard of people with green cards about to expire thinking about citizenship to avoid renewing. So, it seems you'll still have to apply to renew the green card, and it would seem to me you wouldn't get the receipt before the new fees apply in about a week and a half. At least you can apply for the green card replacement with current fees if you hurry up.

1. If you mail the completed and signed form with the correct check your appl most likely will be accepted even with the missing GC copy. It happened to my coworker and he just finished his oath a few months back. The thing is he just forgot to send the copies of GC.

2. You will still need to get the replacement GC since it is a required doc for the interview and oath.

3. I don't know what you are doing with 2 lost cards but you better start taking care and protecting your identity, a lost ssn card can turn out to be your worst nightmare if it gets in the wrong hands.

I know someone who applied for citizenship just to "push" a delayed I-751 :)

I sent in my application without copies of GC or photos as I wasn't aware that they were required to be sent in.

My application was still accepted and I will be taking copies with me for the interview.
