2. CIS Fees Expected to Increase
In mid October 2003, we received a CIS notification in connection with an I-485 case indicating that filing fees are expected to increase in the near future. No further information was provided as to the amount of the increase, the date, or which forms would be involved. Fee increases are generally announced in an official manner, sufficiently in advance to avoid incorrect filings.
Filing fee information is always available on the Forms and Fees section of the CIS WebSite, available through MurthyDotCom. It is necessary to pay the exact fee required with every form. Forms will be rejected for either overpayment or underpayment. If a filing is rejected, it is returned entirely and treated as if it has not been filed. At the very least, this will cause delays. At the worst, it could mean missed legal deadlines or failure to maintain legal status in the U.S. The MurthyBulletin and MurthyDotCom will provide additional information on any CIS fee increases when it becomes available.
