Filing date for Green Card

I've been in the US on H1 for over 6 months now..
My company previously (2 months back) said that they would immediately file
my GC, but later backtacked and said because of the new process, they would like to wait till the start of the new year.
Will filing of GC in Jan 2006 (instead of right now) impact the duration of GC process? Will it take considerably longer then? (say, because of backlog in EB visas by then).

Pls help!
 
Be happy that they are filing at this time at all - most companies will not file before the 5th year. Retrogression depends on which country you are from and which category you are filing in - you didn't post either.

I don't yet know which category (EB2/EB3)..
but i'm BS in Comp. Science/Engg with 6 years exp (S/w engineer)
