Filing at an office vs by mail

My wife and I filed in person at the San Diego District Office last August, got my EAD the next day (again, went in person), AP about 2 weeks later in the mail. Things seemed to be going real quickly as I got called for fingerprinting at the end of October. But since then I've heard nothing.

I thought we were being smart by filing in person but there seems to be no way of finding out the status of our case. The officer gave me an A-number right away but we have no WAC/EAC number with which to use the online status webpage.

I did call the national number and they just laughed that I wanted to know the status after only 9 months, said it would be two years. But I read so many people here seeing their case progress and I wish I could do the same.

So was filing at the office a bad thing to do? The woman on the phone said we might get a WAC number at some point but it wasn't certain and I would just have to wait.

Anyone here file at an office and find out the status of their case?

Thats right Paul, filing by hand, doesn't mean they process your application faster :). Well, they are right when they said it take 2 years. So be patient. When you done with your FP, just wait for your interview of anything else that they need such as RFE. But your case sounds good so far.

Do you pay by check? If you do, did you received back your cancelled checks from the bank? Look closely at the back, there are few small numbers that tell you about your 13 numbers. Good luck.

I looked at the back of the cheque but only see a few 10 digit numbers; the online form says it should be 13 characters (excluding dashes). Is there a way I should pad one of those 10 digit numbers or does it look like I don't have the number I need on the cheque?

Thanks

Paul

The 13 number including alphabets infront of the number. What is yours? If you filed at Vermont it start with EAC, others like LIN and so on.

I tried all 3 10-digit numbers with WAC in front but it says it can't find my application number. So I'm thinking I don't have it on the back of mine. But thanks for the suggestion, it was fun trying!

Paul,

If you filed your adjustment of status packet with the local district office you DONOT get a WAC-XXX number. you have to go in person to the local office to get your application status. Unfortunately there is no other way to find out your case info.

San diego is currently taking 300 days from the date of filing to adjudicate an I485.

Ok, thanks for the info. I filed August 22nd last year which puts me 320something days into the process. Perhaps I will get something in the mail soon!
