I had given my lawyer's address in my application, since I was travelling around for projects. I got an interview call in Nov'02 at Baltimore where my lawyer was located.

I reside in Virginia, and they said that they will have to transfer my case to Arlington. It's been six months and there is no progress.

Has anyone faced this ?
Thanks for all your posts.

Second post

Went to arlington office yesterday(jun-14-2003) and they scheduled an interview without asking any questions.
The interview is on aug-20-03. Will update after the interview.

va_bandha,

Please give more details about how did you get interview schedule from Arlington. What did you ask them and which officer. I'm waiting for 9 months but still didn't get interview letter. I'll appreciate your answer.

Yes Fikabir,

It did'nt look like many people were in the same boat as mine, hence the short update. Let me explain.

I (family) got an interview call at Baltimore in Nov'02 bcos I had given my lawyers address in my application and since I reside in VA, the lawyer said that I cannot attend the I/V in Baltimore cos the first thing they ask is the Maryland driver's lic.

So bcos of the jurisdiction change I had to request them to transfer my files to Arlington. It is after this wait of 6 odd months that I went to the INS office at Arlington yesterday (Jun-14-03). I had read that files can get "lost" in this transfer.

I reached there at 6.15 AM. I was the 25th person in queue. I picked up a conversation with some people in the queue and was told that they will see only 75 persons for the day. The doors opened at 8.00 AM after which you have to stand in another line on the second floor. That is where I got my token to meet the officer at the counter. There were about 6 counters, but only two counters were open, probably being a Saturday.

When my token number was called, I showed her my interview letter from Baltimore and said that I was trying to follow up on my file. She immediately pulled my case on the computer and said that she will schedule an interview. And the date she gave was Aug-20-03. Even though, its a 2 month wait, I atleast have something to wait for.

Hope this update helped.
Regards.

va_bandha,

Thanks for the information. My file has been transfered on Oct 7'02 and still didn't receive anything. I went to Arlington office 4/5 times for EAD renewal. I heard from one guy who visited Arlington last month that if interview is pending for more than 7 months, they can schedule interview right away. I'm planning to visit Arlington office on Wednesday and lets see if they can schedule interview. Your case encourage me to do that.

Did you ask them for sheduling interview? Any suggestions?

Fikabir,
No, I did not ask her anything at the counter. Infact I was tempted to ask her to give me an earlier date for I/V. But thought it wise to keep my mouth shut except to thank her.

I think you should go and try in person. I did it myself only because of the encouraging posts I read here. Worst thing is they will tell you to come after a specific number of months and then you can go again after that time period.

Cheers and good luck.

As per lawyer's advice, remember to take your H-1B approval and AOS receipt with you to show that your current status is in good standing and for them to reference your AOS application.

Note : After the long wait outside, you have a security check just while entering the building. After the sec. check, take the elevator in front of you to the second floor. Turn right and head straight into the room( I don't remember the room#).
Now you have to form another line here to get the token#. You will see a long winding rope to form the line. REMEMBER to walk around the ropes and not under it. If the lady at the desk sees you, she will shout at you.

Heads up just to save you some EMBARRASMENT.

Thanks for the information. I'm taking all of documents with me, in case they want to see it.

I'm quite familiar with Arlington Office, visited 4/5 times. The room # is 210, there is one black lady, very much helpful and I pray I'll see her. Not all the officers are good.
