Friends,

My I-140 with CP option was approved by NSC on February 20th. I have also received the I-140 approval notice. But it's almost 3 weeks and still the automated system at NVC indicates that my file has not reached them. Now, my questions.

1. Should I still wait for a week or so before speaking with a representative at NVC?
(or)
2. Can I contact them now and ask about my case.

3. I also want to be prepared with the fee that needs to be paid with to NVC. Who receives the fee bill?. Me or my attorney?

4. If I can expedite my process, I know that I can have the fees ready and send it to St.Louis as soon as I receive the fee bill. My question is should I pay the fees for my daughter too (She is 4 years old, but not a US citizen).

5. I know the fees is $335 per person. Should I take three individual checks or can I just take one check for me an my dependents?

6. Should the check be a personal check (or) is a certified check acceptable?

7. Whom should be the check in favor of?

I was trying to get these information, but was not able to find it either in this forum or in the NVC home page or I may have overlooked.

So, please point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance for your help.

1- I would wait for 1 more week.
3 - If the contact person on your file is the lawyer, s/he will get the fee bill. Other wise you will get it.
4 - It is 335 per person. So it would be times 3 for you.
5, 6, 7 - I'm not sure, but you should get that information in the Fee bill you receive.

{You can wait for another week or , it does't hurt even if
you call them now}

3. I also want to be prepared with the fee that needs to be paid with to NVC. Who receives the fee bill?. Me or my attorney?

{as alren has suggested above}

4. If I can expedite my process, I know that I can have the fees ready and send it to St.Louis as soon as I receive the fee bill. My question is should I pay the fees for my daughter too (She is 4 years old, but not a US citizen).

{It is the same amount even for children. $ 335}

5. I know the fees is $335 per person. Should I take three individual checks or can I just take one check for me an my dependents?

{Though you can take it either way, my suggestion would
be to take 1 for all of you. This way tracking is easier. I
had done the same thing}

6. Should the check be a personal check (or) is a certified check acceptable?

{Personal checks are not acceptable. Only Cashiers' Check
OR a Money Order}

7. Whom should be the check in favor of?

{Department of State}

I was trying to get these information, but was not able to find it either in this forum or in the NVC home page or I may have overlooked.

No special comments from my end. I think between alren and raju .... most of your questions have been answered.

It's entirely upto you to wait or call NVC. Either ways there is no harm done other than that you may spend your cell phone minutes! But remember it takes about 3-4 weeks for the case to be created @NVC after I-140 approval date!

And as far as saving time you can get the cashier checks/ money orders along with ds 230 part 1 filled for each person on your gc process and mail to your attorneys proactively as this may save 2-3 weeks which would be otherwise lost in mailing things back and forth!

KD, Raju and Alren

Thanks very much everyone for the input provided. I will wait till tomorrow and call NVC on Monday to know the status.

As KD said I will try to complete the forms and take the cashier's checks and mail it to my attorney.

This forum rocks.

I think Raju595, KD1403 and Alren have answered all of your questions.

I will suggest one more thing. If you have the I-140 approval notice with you, then check the approval text. In that text, they should have mentioned words like "Your case has been fowarded to National Visa Center" etc.

If it's not, then get your attorney to contact Service Center and see whether they can correct the mistake on their side.

If it is indeed mentioned as "been transfered to NVC", then you may the NVC next week and ask specificially quoting your I-140 Case No. and I-140 Approval Notice Number.

Hope this helps

Kkulkar,

Thanks for your suggestion. The approval notice does indicate that the case has been forwarded to NVC at Portsmouth, NH.

I am going to call them on Monday because as per the NVC website the following is what they instruct if your case is not created at their end.

I am posting it here for the benefits of others too :

****************************************************
Why don't you have my case at NVC yet?

When you complete a petition (I-130, I-140, etc.) for an immigrant visa you send it to Citizenship and Immigration Services in the Department of Homeland Security for approval. If the CIS approves the petition they will send you a Notice of Approval (I-797) and then they will send the petition to NVC. There is a delay between when you get the Notice of Receipt and the Notice of Approval from CIS and also between when you get the Notice of Approval and when NVC receives the petition. After NVC receives the petition, we will create a case record and assign a case number. We recommend that you wait at least three weeks after you get your Notice of Approval before calling NVC if you have not heard from the Center by that time.

****************************************************
So, I will keep my fingers crossed and wait for 2 more days before I call them.

File has reached NVC

Friends,

As indicated earlier I called up NVC today and the lady to whom I spoke to said that the file was received at NVC, but the information has not yet been entered into the system.

When I asked her if she could give me an estimated time of how long it would take for them to enter the information and create the case she replied that I should be hearing from them in 6 to 8 weeks.

Keeping my fingers crossed. Should I do anything else from my end other than wait?

Other than sitting tight there is not much you can do other than if you want you can get your fee payments of $335 per head and DS 230 part 1 filed up for each applicant and mail to your lawyers. This will save about 2-4 weeks of time.

KD1403

KD,

Thanks for the suggestion. I have already taken a Cashier's check for $1005 dollars for me and my dependents. Trying to complete DS 230 part 1.

Let's see how things goes.

Kewl...you seem to be all proactively equipped for the cp process! Just make sure that on that cashier check somewhere note it it for your case id which involves 3 people!

KD,

The proactiveness is all because of ex cper's like you, raju and others who are contributing and sharing your knowledge about the CP process even after successfully completing the process.

I will definitely nake a note of what you mentioned.

Thanks,
DA
