FI to H1B visa

Hello,
    I am currently on F1 visa here and doing my Optional Practical Training with an employer. My employer is willing to process the H1 visa for me. My question is whether I would have to go back to my home country to get H1B or it would be done while I am here. I wanted to know this especially as Mexico & Canada have stopped processing TCN visa. How is it applicable to my wife who has to go from F2 to H4 visa.

While you are apllying for F1 to H1, apply for COS for your wife also (F2 to H4) and use the receipts and approval as proof of your status. When you visit your home country next time get a valid stamp in your passports.
You can go ahead and continue working once approval is received..
