few questions

My i-485 is pending for about a year now.

CSC center
RD: 08/06/2001
ND: 09/13/2001
FP done: 05/22/2002
EAD : applied on 10/7/02


my questions are:

1. what are the chances of getting rfe this late in the process?
i noticed that most of applicants filed around my RD date have either received RFEs or approved.

2. i called INS office the other day, officer told me that they are waiting for 'background check' report from FBI and hence they can't give any estimates. he also suggested me to call back after a month or so.

Does anybody know if this is the last step in their process?
Why is it that 'background check' taking so long time?

some additional info about my status if it interests you -

I got laid-off on 10/10/02 but my company pays me for about 2 months. So my last termination date is 12/10/02.

i was told that my status is legal as long as AOS application is pending with INS. so i'm not worried about that legal status. i'm trying to find a job so i can answer any RFE.

IS your 140 cp ? and which location is yours

sorry i'm not familiar with the terms. what is cp?
if you are asking if my 140 is through RIR, yes.
location is bay area, california. csc center. what's your location?

i really dont' understand why FBI takes this long to clear background checks. most people with RD date around 8/01 got it approved already.
