Could someone enlighten me about Alien number?

First off, is the 9 digit number following A ( such as A028 967 595) in I-197C ( notice of action ) an Alien number?

If it is then why is the A number printed on EAD card different? :S Someone in here told me that the difference was caused due to my change of status but I just came across a receipt for my old EAD card application which I'd applied for when I was a F-1 student. As it stands, the numbers in both I-797s ( one approval, one receipt notice from last year ) are the same while all EAD cards have a different number.

Also, the I-797A ( approval notice ) for my I-730 didn't have anything under I-94#. So I've actually scheduled an infopass appointment next week. I'm supposed to go to the same office a week later for biometrics for Travel Document. Is there any way I could have them do my biometrics on the same day? I know that they're a Federal govt. office but the office that I'm supposed to go to doesn't get busy at all and on top of that, it is 4 hours away from me. I don't wanna miss two days of classes and travel all the way twice in less than a week.

Hey

I was looking for info on Nebraska Service Center (just for educational purposes :D) and I came across this and remembered that I saw your question, so I had to dig for it. Now, it is regarding I485, but you never know....

c/p from the website:
For most applicants, the A number issued with their I-485 will be their surviving A number
All A numbers for an applicant will be identified and files ordered for consolidation if necessary as all I-485 filings will go through a procedure called "Search and Assign". The surviving A number is shown by a set hierarchy and the rest of the A numbers will be consolidated into it. The A number issued with their I-485 will be their surviving A number for most applicants.

I wonder if somebody got confused there and "killed" your original A number. Anyway check out the website http://www.immigration.com/fromtheagency/neservicecenter.html
and click on the last update.
This probably does not answer your question, but more info never hurts...
Okay then, share if you managed to investigate why there was a different A number.

Actually, after visiting the Regional office and speaking to an immigration officer, I've found out that the A number on my EAD card ( issued while I was a F-1 Student ) was a temporary one that they issued. It didn't have any great significance. On the other hand, the one on the approval notice is the one that I should be using from now on permanently. Thanks for your effort though.

By the way, were you already present here in the states before your case got approved?

So what kind of SS Card do you have? Is that the only type of card you've had? ( restricted/unrestricted )

Hon, I don't have it yet. I will apply for one as soon as I receive my EAD. I don't have even a bank account....or credit cards...or drivers license, US drivers license I mean (not that this ever stopped me from driving :D) Kinda hard to track me down if somebody wanted to. Now when I get my SS I will be able to get my $180 back from ConEd which I had to deposit in order to open an account, since I did not have a SS and I did not want to use my daughter's, even though many people do. If you wander how I survived.... :D:D:D - not that hard, but it sucks. The good thing is I don't owe anything to credit institutions...

wow. You've been here for 8 and a half years and you survived without a drivers license, Credit Cards, a bank account and SS card?

Where do you live? Did you work at all? ( Not trying to get too personal )

New York and yes I worked, on cash... You can of course imagine - underpaid and all that, but what can you do... life... :) the important thing is now I can really do what I want to. And hopefully soon.
