Feels great having the Canadian PR today.

I bet many of us in the forum feel great being a Canadian Permanent Resident today. What with the Visa retrogression for Indian nations to 1/1/1998 for EB3 and 1/1/1999 for EB2 and even all Other countries retrogressing to 1/1/2001 for EB3, chances of getting a US GC seem to get dimmer and dimmer.
Looks like our backup may really end up being a life saver. I bet there is now going to be a huge rush for Canadian Permanent Residency applications and we are going to see tons of new ppl visiting this forum. It may even clog the processing in Buffalo and increase processing times.
Lets hear everyone's thoughts on this issue and how they feel.

I was not aware that there was retrogression for EB2 under PERM. I know EB3 under PERM and RIR has retrogression. Is there a link that shows this information?

Never mind I found the links. This is pathetic, the delays back to 1999/1998 are amazing. Just goes to show how inefficient how the entire US immigration process has become.

Question for TexanCandaian and other Canadaian Immigration gurus

My husband and I are permanent Residents of Canada. We landed in Canada on Apr 15th, 2003, completed the landing formalities and came back to US.

As I understand being a Canadian PR we can be outside Canada for 3 years after landing. Hence we are planning to move permanently to Canada before end of third year (Apr 15th, 2006). My husband can move well before the third year completes, however I cannot move untill I complete my job contratual obligations i.e till end of May 2006 .This will also allow my son to finish his school year.

Under these circumstances is there a way I can get a month or two extension/grace after the three year period. Who should I contact?
What will be the best course of action?

Thanks and Regards

Thanks for the response tangohi.

I would like to know if there is way to request an extension for 2 months.
This way my son will not miss out on his school.

You have 2 options

1) Spend 2 months some way in Canada before you move. Say during your kids Winter Christmas holidays from school or Spring Break that you get for 2005 and 2006

2) Go ahead and send your husband to Canada as soon as possible. Go ahead with him for an extended weekend or few days when he moves. Then when you need to go just go. Basically they may ask you when was the last time you were in Canada - that way you can say just 2 months ago. Also with your husband there they will most probably not deny you admission because you show ties to that Country. Remember even if they deny your case they still have to let you into Canada for a hearing. Worst case scenario go through the hearing process with a good lawyer and tell them that you plan to stay in Canada permanantly now. Or if you dont want to go through the hassel your husband can sponsor you again since he will be in Canada and you will get your PR again in 6-12 months.

Remember Canadian Immigration is humane and considerate. Unless you lie or deceive them or abuse their intelligence they are normally quite nice unlike you know who.

Do not know if you can extend it for two more months, check there web page or else check with a lawyer. I do not agree that their system is humane and better, have heard plenty of horror stories there too. They are smart and will find out that you played a gam by being there for a weekend or so. Best option is ot visit thier website or talk to a lawyer. Getting sponsored again or going to a judge is going to be more expensive and will be more draining. Sorry cannot give you more information

I applied in May 2003 and received my stamped passport back in September 2004. So you could say 1.5 yrs. However I am a firm believer in the maxim "better safe than sorry" because I understood the importance of Canadian PR, given that I knew in 2003 itself that the chances of getting USGC were getting slimmer and slimmer. Also I had already been to Canada in 2001 for H1B stamping and I liked the country. Therefore I took all precautions, sent all documents, took IELTS (Best way to avoid personal interview - havent come across single person yet with 16 in IELTS who has been called for interview). Also I was quite aggressive in getting and sending all documents they needed exif they requested a document and if it was at home I would send it very next day etc....

Best of luck

Since the file number is issued, when will the PR be issued?

My dad is a PR of Canada, he sponsored my mom, my brother, and I. And the file number of our documents had already been issued (I think 2 months ago). My question is, when will the PR be issued since I've got this file #?
(Is it the final step of the process? Because it's already in Singapore, knowing that I'm living in Indonesia)

Thank you very much for answering :)
