I want to get cashier's checks for the Fee Bill so i could send it as soon as i get it. I guess, the amount is $335 / person. I would like to know, who should i make it payable to?
Do you have to write anything in the memo field or on the back of that check?
Thanks

It should be drawn in favor of 'Department of State'. The amount is $ 335/-.

Write the Case number at the top of the instrument.

Is official check issued by Citi Bank is OK

Hi,

Just a quick question, citi bank says cashier's check is equivalent to official check they issue.

Is official check (citibank) equivalent to cashier's check? They charge $10 for each check.

Can anybody suggest the best way to get cashier's check or equivalent? I have to make 4.

Thanks

The least expensive way is to buy money orders from any U.S. Post Office. They cost 90c each upto $700.

abihitesh ,

This is not a direct answer to your question. I do not know what
an official check is.

But in my case I have clubbed all 3 applicants' amounts and took
only 1 cashier's check. There is no problem with this.

You should remember that all the family members would have the
same case number, and giving 1 check is actually easier for the
NVC too!

A suggestion!

How do you know when the money order is encashed?

If I buy say two money orders (for 4 people) say $670 and $670.

How do you track when the money order is encashed?

I believe you will be able to track the encashment of a money order. You will be provided with the customer service number
when you buy it.

The cashier's checks are freely(easily) available. I bought mine in Bank of America.

Cashier's check may or may not cost you depending upon your bank and the type of bank account. When i had the premium account, it was free. now with personal checking, it costs about $10 for a cashier's check. Money orders are probably cheaper in this case, but you need to carry your cash to the post office.
