FBI namecheck

I have a question about FBI namcheck:
Would the status of any case online change once fbi namecheck is complete?(lets suppose situation that I-485 was approved on interview but at that time FBI namecheck wasn't complete yet).
Perhaps I should ask this way:
If I-130 has been approved according to online status would that mean that FBI namecheck is completed?

Hi,
I have same confusion.I recently had my interview and officer said he is waiting for FBI name check, but my I-130 doesnot say approved.Does your I-130 says it is approved?.when was your interview?.I am worried that my I-130 doesn't show approval. Please suggest.

I had my interview 5 days ago. They told me the same thing(we are waiting for fbi namecheck and i approve your I-485-those were excat words). Right now I can only check online status of I-130 and it says that the case has been approved and notice was mailed. When I tried to check status of I-485 then it says that recepit number cannot be found(used to work before with same notice#), so it looks like I-485 application has been closed or there is an error.
I will call National Customer Service Center to find out why my I-485 doesn't show up online.
(I remeber about 3 days ago, I could still check I-485 status online and it said that it takes them between 120-180 days to process this application. I-485 status was changed to mentioned above the very next day after interview)

But still does approval of I-130 mean that FBI Namecheck is completed ? :)

Looks like your case is approved. Usally they approve I 130 and I 485 at the same time. Also it happended to so many that they receives the approval notice very shortly after their case status disapperes.
Hoping for best,

I don't think they do a background check for I-130. Those 2 applications don't get approved at the same time. After your I-130 is approved they call you for I-485 interview. And, they can't approve your I-485 if your background checks have not been completed yet. Otherwise, why would people wait for the completion of their background checks? They would just get their passports stamped, and that's it!

After being here for more than a year, I am still learning new stuff. My online case status never got updated after initial updation (when I sent my application). Same thing happened with my Citizenship case. So i guess ppl at my DO are not that computer friendly. May be that is why I had this misunderstanding.
Thanks Anhit.

I am really confused and scared now.My online status for I-485 still shows same message 120 days....just LUD change as my interview date, that's it.That means they still keeping my case for another interview or what?.Anybody whose onlune status never changed after interview?.Please help

If your I-130 wasn't approved you wouldn't be called for an interview. There is not going to be another intrview. They will make decision on your case when they get all the checks done for you.
They don't always update the case status on-line. Don't worry about it.

They ARE approved at the same time in some instances, e.g. via DORA where interview takes places at the time of filing.

Anahit,
For family based applications that are sent concurrently the I-130 and I-485 get approved at the same time. You will get call for an interview regardless of the status of your I-130. When you get approved for your I-485 then your I-130 is approved as well. This issue has been discussed in the past.

So does approval of either I-485 or I-130 indicates that FBI name check has been completed?
If your I-485 is approved, that means the FBI name check has been completed. Having said that, I really don't understand your input "They told me the same thing (we are waiting for fbi namecheck and i approve your I-485-those were excat words). Did you ask the officer to stamp your passport? I don't think they would stamp the passport until your name check is cleared. And again, I don't think they can approve your I-485 unless they have all your checks cleared.

What does it mean to approve the I-130?
It means establishing the relationship between the petitioner and the person who's being petitioned. Right?
Only after prooving that relationship a person who's being petitioned can file for adjustment of status. Filing concurrently does not mean that they can start processing the I-485 without establishing the relationship first. So, it's only logical to think that I-130 gets approved first.
I applied concurrently for my parents. They were called for the interview 7 months after filing. It's been 7 months after their interview, and no response yet. I found out thru the congressman that my father's case is pending because of "routine background checks" (haven't gotten anything about my mother's case yet).
So, do you think the CIS would spend about a year without establishing the relationship first? I don't think so.

Ok I got it all messed up then. So when the officer said at the interview that she approves our application, she was talking about I-130. I think I got it straight right now.
Anyway, like I was saying before few days after interview I wasn't able to view status of I-485 online but 1-130 was fine and it said online that it was approved. So, I called Service Center and after 4 call redirections and 30 minutes hold, I have been told that status of I-485 is not available because they send a request somewhere to send me my card (5 days before that I was told on interview that I have FBI name check pending) and once they send the card they will update status of I-485. Next day I checked online status of I-485 again and it said that my application was approved and the card will be mailed as soon as it’s ready. :)

Hi nicpon,
Can you tell me when u called Customer service, which option did u choose?.Can you tell me if they said that your FBI check is completed?.I am in same situation and waiting for name check.Thank you

I don’t remember which option I choose but anyway I was redirected 3 times afterwards so I have no idea where the heck I end up. No body was able to answer my question about name check but what the last person told me was that since we(INS) send a paper to somewhere else(she didn't say where) so they can issue you a card, we can assume that everything has been completed. She added that if something wasn't completed they wouldn't send that paper requesting a card for me.

BTW. I called Service Center and I didn't ask for FBI name check but I asked what I need to travel. I told the lady my case number and that I applied for AOS and that FBI name check is pending. She replied that I need get my I-20 stamped and then I can go abroad(I had f-1 visa a year ago). I laughed and told her that I cannot do that then she transferred me....

nicpon,
Thank you for your reply.I am glad that atleast you know that your case is approved.I am so worried as becos my officer said he approved my Work permit and will send it in 2 weeks but online the status is not changed..may i have to wait :) for ever to get it all done.Good luck to all who have pending cases.

Congratulations, nicpon! You'll get your card soon. :)
I think there was some misunderstanding at your interview. Looks like your name check wasn't pending afterall, otherwise they wouldn't order your card.

There probably was some misunderstanding but I do remember for sure that she said that my name check wasn't cleared yet. Anyway, I'm soooooo happy. :D

They don't always update the case status on-line. Don't worry about it.

The I-130 is sent to the service center and I-485 is sent to the DO and they both follow a different timeline. There are times when the I-485 interview is scheduled but the I-130 is still not adjudicated. So, if by the time of interview the I-130 is still not approved then it would be adjudicated during the time of interview along with the I-485.
