* FBI Name Checks - During the past year, the CIS has requested 1.5
million
name checks from the FBI. The number of name checks which are still
pending is
233,000. If your application cannot be granted because a name check is
pending, you may want to call the National Name Check Office at (202)
324-2399.
If you cannot get through or if you get a recording, you may wish to
contact
the office via e-mail at fbinncp@ic.fbi.gov Be sure to provide your
full name,
date of birth, alien number and e-mail address.

Thanks for sharing this information but I believe that both these methods do not work anymore. The phone update was eliminated a while back and lately I have heard that the FBI has stopped replying to email requests as well.

The only silver lining these days is that I have seen a lot of cases that had been stuck in the Name Check process for years getting approved lately. A few people who called the FBI were informed that the FBI is implementing some new program to improve the process of Name Checks. It would be to much of a coincidence for long pending Name Check cases to be approved around the same time people started reporting that the FBI is implementing a new system. Maybe the new system or system clean up will help a lot of people stuck in this horrible "Name Check" process.

You are right they are not doing any of the above mentioned anymore since I called myself and was told that they are not because they are really behind and also sent an e-mail since July and no reply since then .

I hope this new system takes place soon.

FBI Name Check

I am also stuck in the name check process for last 8 weeks and just wondering if the name check process is different for H1b and green card because for me it was the extension of H1b and they told me that i have a very common name so they want to get the security clearance from FBI for my name check. Any help would be appreciated.

I have not heard of Name Check pending for H1B extensions. Well, nothing is a surprise now-a-days.

Some 8 months ago I went to Canada for H1 stamping (renew) and there is no problem with name check (actually cleared within 5h, because I collected passport on the same day). BUT my Name Check is still pending for I-485
