FBI Name Checks - Article

Hi all,

I wrote an article about FBI name check, with information gathered from many FBI and USCIS documents, as well as what I have learned from this great community. I've already referred to it a couple times on Yahoo, and people's reaction was usually shocking - most of them can't magine waiting for years for this one clearance alone.

Your comments and suggestions are always welcome. If I have enough feedback, maybe even volunteers willing to share some details of their long-pending cases, I'll forward it to the Washington Post which has recently published several articles regarding legal immigration problems. Maybe they will publish another report to raise the issue about name check delays.

I'm sure it will help someone.

good work, send the article to multiple media

one after another if the Washington Post does not respond.

suggestions to ZGreen

Hi ZGreen,
It is a good effort.
I would suggest you to make change in the title of article so that it will be eye catching. Something like...

Long Pending FBI name checks for immigration: Is it a threat to U.S. national security?

This may not be the best title , but you can word something with similar meaning.

Also include some past examples , Sept 11, when some terriorists were not detected even when were present in US.

The introduction need to be simplified. I suggest you to define what is name check in introduction and for what purpose it is done.

Emphasize more on national security and convertion to computer based name checks.

I hope it may help.

Thanks for the kind words.

abhuda,
Appreciate your comments. Will consider making those changes. Thanks.

Nice article, thanks for the effort. The part about compromising national security is very important. They should understand that all this individuals with pending security clearance are already in the US and are benefiting from most rights that a PR/USC could have, so if there is any "potential threat" then it could be taken seriously.

Go for it Zgreen. People who are not in the same boat sometimes joke about this. I am glad that someone has come up with this idea. Even though we blame USCIS, its the name check or security check whatever we call it is holding us back. Thanks.

Zgreen-
Good informational article.

I have been stuck in the name check black hole for 3 years now. If you need any volunteers please let me know. I will be more than happy to give my details.

Stuck in name check

My signature :

I-140 (AP Jan 2006)
(FP2- May 2007)
I-485 AP --????????

My I-485 LUD's and my family LUD's changed on 06/28/07, 06/29/07 and 06/30/07. I do not know what happened internally. But there is no message changed.

I called TSC on 01/29/07 and 06/22/07 and had been to local USCIS office on 02/08/07 and 06/29/07 . I came to know from both the cases that my case was stuck in FBI name check. We are all on the same boat.

Guys, do not loose hope, some time we'll find the light at the end of a tunnel.

called TSC a little bit ago-

Here's the info.
- she said my name check is still pending
- results from my second FP given on 5/8/07 came back
- my case is assigned to an officer
- cannot disclose if a visa number has been assigned to my case

(I went to Infopass appointments- one in May 07 and one on Jul-06-07
During my first appointment, I was told that my name check was clear. But in the second appointment he said my name check is still pending)

I told the TSC rep that I was told by Infopass my name check was cleared. She said she was aware that Infopass has been telling people like that but not sure where they getting that info. What she was looking at shows that my name check is still pending.

I am going to call again on Monday and use my receipt number to see if they tell me any different. Today I had to use my A# because I didn't have the receipt# handy.

Looks like I am missing this wave of approvals also. So freaking dippressing. Don't know what to do.

Oh, by the way, she also said that since my case has been transferred to TSC in March, it started all over- which we all here know is not true because there have been several approvals for transferred cases. What idiots?

duggils1,

I feel your pain. You have the earliest PD I've seen in a while. Hopefully you will get the piece of plastic soon enough.

It is alarming that at infopass you were told NC was cleared, but later told still pending. How much more frustrating can it get? At my appointment the officer actually showed me the screen. Although I didn't have too much time to check every detail, I did see FBI name check completed and a date, which the officer already told me. Still in doubt I called TSC later that day, and a guy basically said the same thing and the same date. Now if someone at USCIS comes out and tells me that my NC is still pending, I'll be mad as hell but probably not too surprised. IT IS A MESS!

Regarding the article, I'm putting together another page that will list name check victims. If you give me permission I'll put your case up there. Better yet, if you could give me your first name and initial of last name, that will make the list more trustworthy. Otherwise screen name is fine. For anyone who is willing to participate please forward me your PD (month, year) and i485 RD (to show NC pending time). You can reply to this thread, PM me, or use the Contact form on the website. I'll publish the page once there are 50 or more victims on the list.

Have a good weekend everyone!

To gauge namecheck progress, look at EB-2 approvals. EB-2, even for India, was not retrogrssed for long. So whatever delay must be for namecheck. Most EB-2 approvals are from RD mid 2005 these days. That would mean it'll take FBI a year to reach mid-2006. However given the large number of applications filed in 2006 (after PBEC started clearing out its backlog)I think for most cases it'll take more than a year to reach 2006. Could be 2 years. If your case gets serious hits maybe 4..6 years, who knows. Just guessing, but these are educated guesses.

We need to campaign to get the system fixed. NOW. See http://tinyurl.com/yvpbe8 for a thread I started on this topic. It also has some interesting insider info about NC. And please post this link in other boards.

Name check

Thanks! Nice and important informtion. I think it is a good idea to get your records from FBI and attach it to the letter to Zoe Lofgren.

Guys, following link can help getting your records from FBI using FOIPA (Freedom of Information and Privacy Act)

It took me more than 4 years and nothing happens yet

My I484 RD 3/31/2003, and had four EAD. I am very sad that mine may be the longest waiting time. It is really sad. FBI told the congressman I wrote to that they received USCIS's name check request in 2003, but still pending. Anybody, please shine some light on what to do. Thanks
