Father's name issue - visa rejected.

I am in dire need for some advise because my mother was denied visitor visa stating that "the names in all the passports are very very confusing". She was asked to come back again.

Background:
I have a green card and residing in US.
My father has a 10 year multiple entry visa and has visited US twice.
My mother wants to visit now and is rejected.

Problem: son, father and mother all have completely different names. There is no common last name or surname. Unfortunately in my community there is no concept of a surname. And to make matters worse, Father's name in son's passport is not the same as father's name in father's passport.
Is there a way to correct this situation? If so, please give suggestions.
Also, is it an issue if father, son and mother have completely different names?

You should get your passport corrected to reflect the correct name of your dad and also mom

Your mom and dad can have each others names endorsed in their passports.

Did you also present the birth certificates and some other documents reflecting the correct names and the relationships. That should get across the point.

Good Luck

Thanks for your response. I tried to correct my father's name in my passport. But his name is completely different from my name. We do not share the same last name. So, the consular officer in US is saying that I may have issues because of this. Not sure if he is right and what kind of issues I may face. Why cannot father and son have completely unrelated names? Why should that be a problem?

I know that is the case with several people in the southern part of India,

You can get the names corrected on your passport and have the names of ypur parents endorsed on their passports.

With the correct BC/ affidavit it should be okay to make the case for your parents. As I mentioned earlier that other documents which demonstrate the relationship (joint accounts, degrees, property papers, marriage certificate etc) will help as well.

There are times when you get inexperienced officers, and hope that next time you get someone more experinenced. Unfortunately we are paying price of those who tried to defraud the system.

As for inexperience, I have read about the case of someone who decided to forgo the pomp and show of weddings, as well as the expense and got married in the presence of family in the court. The officer in that case refused to accept the wedding as valid, because it was too austere, despite the magistrates certificate as well the photos of the ceremony. so there you go. The couple was able to make the case on their second try with another officer.

So dont lose heart and good luck.
