Applying for EAD is different from using EAD. You may apply and get an EAD but never use it, which means that you will have other valid visas like H1/L1
If, the primary applicant uses EAD, the H1 for priamary and H4 for dependents is automatically invalidated. Once this happens primary and dependents become adjustees, meaning waiting for 485 to get approved when you become a LPR.
So, if you use (not just apply) EAD and you are primary applicant all members who are included in your application will be adjustees or I-485 pending applicants which is a legal status.
