Fastest way for a Canadian to get an R-1 temp visa

I am a Canuck and am seeking to get a perm R visa, but I need the R1 temp first, and there is a nine-month backlog. That will not work for me.:mad: An INS attorney told me yesterday that Canadians are not required to go the usual immigration application route and can just go to a border crossing and get one on the spot! Is this true? I working under TN now and have an exciting "green card job" offer.:)

You still need to get the petition approved by USCIS, you just don't need the consular visa stamp. Out of curiosity, which church are you ordained with?
