Famous People Visas

I'd be interested in hearing some thoughts on this :)

Let's take Clive Barker (Horror Author) as an example.

How did he come to live in LA permanently iyho?

It seems that a lot of Writers can live in the US because they're Writers, they're not all rich, either.

Some comments I've had are simply because they "bought their way in," but is it always that simple.

Obviously, Catherin Zeta Jones married Michael Douglas, which can't have done her application a disservice...

I'm guessing Mr Barker would be considered under an Entertainer's Visa of some kind, any ideas?

Thanks and sorry for the 'newbie' questions, I do try to research but it's not so much looking for the info, moreso 'what' info in the first place :D

There is a special visa category, like the Entertainment visa you mention. Also, if they are here for a long time, it used to be much much easier to get a Greencard. In the 70ies and 80ies it took less than 6 months, and the requirements were pretty lax.

I once read that Michael J Fox (before he was famous) drove to LA from Vancouver with his father and got an acting job for a commercial his first day there. Obviously illegal.

Before they were married (but engaged), Tiger Woods and his wife (who is Swedish) would travel together to tournaments in and out of the US. She would be on a K visa and should not have been allowed to leave, yet the rules don't always apply to famous people.

Thanks guys, this whole thing has become intriguing in a way :p

My friend's excitement has waned considerably, Joe, so I'm pleased I found the forum.

I hear things all the time, as do we all.

The latest being that you can stay in Canada for 6 months, enter the US for 3, then Canada 6, US 3 and so on.

I've only had normal holidays to the US (3x), but on my experience I can't see anybody not picking up on the above pattern.

K-3 visa holders are allowed to leave and re-enter while their GC application is being processed. Other visas are allowed to do it if they have been granted Advance Parole, whether you're rich and famous or not.
