Family based sponsorship from a parent to married daugther

Hi,
My wife and myself both have EADs (PD in 2007) and currently working. My wife's mom is currently a GC holder and will be eligible to apply for citizenship in 2012. In case our GC is not approved by then is she eligible for her mom sponsoring her GC? If yes, is it advisable to go through the process?

With her citizen mother being the sponsor, your wife will come under Family sponsored Third category (Married Sons and Daughters of Citizens) which is currently backlogged by 9+ years (18 years if your wife is from Philippines or China).
