F1 vs L2 spouse Visa for masters course

Hey everyone, hope you all are doing well!

I have an admit (and i20) for a masters in science program at the University of Washington, Seattle. I am yet to start my F1 visa application process.

However, my wife's company just started an L1b immigrant visa application for her movement to the US.

I have a couple of questions about this -

1) Is it better to attend college with an L2 spouse visa or the F1 visa? I know I will not be eligible for CPT and OPT with my L2 visa, however, with an employment authorization, I can work full time via my L2 visa.
2) Assuming that my wife doesn't list me as a dependent for the visa process and her L1 process goes ahead, will it affect my F1 approval chances if I inform the immigration officers about my wife's L1 visa?

Thanks !

I started my master’s program in April 2024 on an L2 visa and later obtained a Change of Status (COS) to F1 while in the U.S. I am now planning to visit India in March for F1 visa stamping. I am eligible for Dropbox but understand that I may still be called for an interview.

Since I have a year left until graduation, I am wondering if this is the right time to travel. I am concerned that if I wait until the end of my program, the consulate may question my intent to return, potentially impacting my approval. At the same time, I want to ensure I avoid unnecessary risks or delays in case of administrative processing.

Would you recommend proceeding with stamping now, or would it be safer to wait I would appreciate your insights.
