F1 transfer and out of F1 status

Hi, everyone,

I hold a F1 visa in US, and plan to transfer to another university. My current university said I need to finish this semester and then they will release my SEVIS to new university. If I drop courses in this semester, I will be out of F1 status. I wonder if I drop courses and come back to my country, can the new university issue me a new I-20 form as a newly admitted student not as a transfer student? If I drop the courses, will my current university release my SEVIS immediately? Will these effect on my future application to F1 visa? Anyone meets this case?

Thank you for reading my questions. Welcome to any suggestion.

I was not exposed to your situation but i can share my thoughts. I am not an expert though.

1st- If i were you, i won't risk my chance of coming back by putting myelf out of status because of dropping the courses. We are about to finish the semester, just hang in there and increase your chances to transfer to the university of your choice.

2- dropping in the middle of the semester will put out of status because even the University you want to transfer to will not allow you to join classes at this point of the semester. How are you going to explain the gap between dropping the current classes and the time you will join the new classes in your new university.

With SEVIS now, all the databases are networked. If i were you, just follow the advice of the office of international students in your university.
