F1 to OPT to H1B

Hi..
My Situation: I am a full time student. I have taken all my courses and since this is summer I am on status without taking any courses on OPT. I am planning to apply for OPT from Aug or Sept. I am looking for jobs.

Questions:
1: Is OPT/EAD card, a requirement for processing H1B.
2: If I get a job offer now asking me to join may 2005. I will not have OPT in hand until 3 months if i apply tomm. By the time I get my OPT and apply for H1B I am guessing it will be too late for this years quota. Please advice.

Make sure you are always in status (F1 or OPT) without any break, until you get your H1Thanks,
