Hi all,

I had come to the US on F-1 and completed all the coursework of my masters but am left with my thesis.Currently I am on my H-1. Can somebody please tell me that would it be a problem if I go to canada to get my H-1 visa stamped.would they ask for my masters degree?I do have transcripts for my masters. Also can someone tell me if there is a time limit before which one has to get a H-1 visa stamp in his passport even if one does not leave USA?I mean is it necessary to get a stamp if one intends to stay in the USA for a while? Please reply as soon as possible.I would really appreciate the answers.

Thanks a lot

your stay is valid till the date on the i94.
Visa stamping is ONLY for travel.
One can stay in US for the complete duration of the VISA without getting stamped on the passport.

Hi there,

Thanks meowmeow for the response. But would it be a problem for me to get a H-1 stamp on the passport from canada without my degree even if i have the transcripts?
Also if I apply for the green card now would my lack of degree affect my green card processing in any way?my H-1 was done on the basis of my BTech degree from India. Please let me know.

Thanks a lot

Nope, your green card will not be affected.

As for the stamping in Canada,
according to people's experiences, it seems that they look for the us degree ...iam not sure whether it will work with transcripts...search this forum about it and email the persons who have got visa from canada about their experiences.
