F1 to H1 low grade problem

Hello,

One of my friend who is doing Masters in Comp Sc in US (F1 visa) got D grade in one subject. This is his first semester.
His friends told that this low grade may be a problem for him when applying to H1 visa.
Is this true? Could this be a problem even if he covers his GPA in the following semesters?

Some are advising him to change the university, so that this subject wont transfer and he can start fresh!
Is it worth transfering the university?

Thank You for the help,
srikanth

No, either you have the degree or you do not. Whether you got straight As or straight Ds is of no relevance to USCIS.

No. Makes me wonder what kind of grades his friends got.

semester grades doen't matter. You need the master's degree certificate to apply for H1b under master's quota. As far as I know, on university diploma there won't be anything about your grades. Just to let you know that people do get H1 even without finishing master's, but you get H1 easily under master's quota. so I mean do not worry about grades.
