Hi all, I have quite dilemma. I am currently on an F1 visa (I am from India). I will be getting my Ph.D. in November 2006 and my boss has offered me a job starting in December/January. We are currently applying for the H1 visa and once we get that I intend to get a visa stamp in my passport. I will be travelling to India in December, but the Mumbai consulate has no openings for interviews untill March 2007. So I am thinking of driving to Toronto in November end and getting my passport stamped there. My questions are the following:
1. Does anyone see any problems with this strategy?
2.Is there any other solution to this situation?
3. I would hate to be denied the visa in canada- what happens then?
4. If I still have a valid I-20 and F1 visa stamp in my passport- even if I am denied the H1 visa in Toronto, can I still re-enter the states based on my F1 or does processing the H1 application preclude this possibility?
I have always maintained good status on my F1 visa and never had any problems of any kind before- but this is a dilemma on what to do.
I dont want to apply for OPT as I dont feel comfortable travelling abroad with just the OPT - and I will need to travel a few times next year.
I appreciate all the help and suggesstions you guys can give and thank you all in advance for your time.
