F1 to H1 help needed

Hi, I have two questions. Help on any part will be greatly appreciated.
I am currently in the US on an F1 visa and will graduate in August 2007. I have a job offer and my employers have just filed for my H1. My questions are the following:
1. The H1 will kick in only on Oct 1, and I want to start work earlier, preferably the week after I graduate (Aug 12). Can I apply for an OPT to work for the period from Aug 12 - Oct 1? Will there be any issues?
2. I was planning to travel to India in May before the summer session of school starts. Will there be any travel issues? I will apply for OPT only in the last week of May, after I come back.
 
If you apply H1B April 2nd, your application will be denied because you only graduate in August. You need to have all the degree requirements completed prior to applying for H1B.
 
Hey,
graduating is not an issue for me. This is my second master's degree in the United States.. I am working on two degrees.. already have one degree and transcripts.. Attorneys also have my undergrad transcripts...
