Anyboody knows how long it takes to get work permission after getting married.
I'm on F1 visa with an OPT still valid until June. I'm planing to get married soon but i dont want loose my current job and i'm wondering if there is anything i can do about it? is possible to extend my OPT for few days untill i get my work permit papers? I've heard that the time it takes for INS to grant the papers depends on the state , is it true? If so how is Ohio ranked with wait time ?
Please help
Mike

you can look up processing times on www.uscis.gov

It will take up to three months to issue your EAD. If it is not issued in 90 days from the Application Received Date on your notice of receit, you can get an interim EAD at your local center. I'd recommend getting married and applying for AOS 3 months before your current EAD expires, even if you simply get married in a civil ceremony by a judge in court. Later on you can have a lavish wedding ceremony.

My current EAD expiers at the begining of June, So i guess i won't be able to work for some time even if i get married tomorrow. What would happen if I will keep on working even after EAD expires and my employer forgets about my status completly. Will i get punished for that ??

in theory, it's a violation of your legal status.

However, in my case AOS EAD took only a month and a half to be issued and sent to me. :) (July 2004, MBC)
