F1 to GC OR F1 to EAD

Hi,

First of all I really appreciate you people helping everyone.

I am on F1, my OPT will start on December 16th 2005. On August 12th 2005 I was married. My wife already has Green Card. How long will it take for me to get EAD or Green Card and what are the required steps and documents that I need?

Since your wife is a LPR, she can only file I-130 for you at this point and wait for it to be approved and PD to become current. Once your PD becomes current and I-130 is approved, you can apply for I-485 to change status if you are still in the US. When you apply for I-485, you can also apply for EAD. Not sure how long it would take for you to get GC after that as it depends on your DO and time taken to clear FBI namecheck.

You have to also remember that it would take ~3-4 years for your PD to become current. Till that point, you would have to maintain your own legal status.
