F1 status whether to go for CP or AOS

Dear all,
I'm currently in F1 visa and graduating august 08. My CN is 2008AS110XX. I've choosen CP due to my high CN but as it seems my CN will be current in June. So as an F1 student can i switch from CP to AOS. For this matter i called USCIS some days earlier and one of the agent said as an F1 student i cannot have immigration intent so i cannot procced for AOS :(.
If i do CP too will i be considered for GC as i'm in F1 status. I'm in dillemma as to whether i should go to my country for CP interview or not. If they strip off my F1 status and don't issue me GC i'll be in deep deep trouble.
Any suggestions or experiences !!!!!
Thankyou.

Dibesh,
There are cases where F1 status people have successfully got the GC by either doing AOS or CP. If you are in good status through out, I don't see any problem getting GC for you. However whether to do AOS or CP, choice is yours. With AOS, if you are lucky, you might get your interview letter within 2-3 months of applying otherwise it might take longer too. And your deadline is Sept 30 to get the visa. With CP, you can get the visa sooner. The only concern is from June to Sept, you have four months within which you need to have your interview. So AOS would be a tricky situation. However some USCIS local office process the dv cases with priority and you might be able to get your interveiw letter within that period. So think about all these.
Where is your USCIS local office?

I would suggest go through the thread "DV 2008 -- AOS only" if you are planning to do AOS. You will find more helpful information over there.

By the way where are you from?

that is complete crap. You probably talked to a clerk who doesn't know much.

However, I wouldn't do AOS at this time with such a high number. I hope you already filed all your papers with KCC and that in May they will be transferred to the consulate.

Thanks Savy17 and LucyMo for your quick responses and suggestions. I'm from Nepal and I'm in good status i.e. F1 with my I-20 still vaild till august 08 and F1 visa still valid till 2011. I submitted all required documents to KCC requesting CP. As LucyMo suggested I think i should go for CP.
By the way do i need to get police report from US too. Once again a big thanks guys.

Dibesh,
I know a guy from Nepal who was here on F1 visa and he was DV winner for 2007. He went to Nepal for the consular processing. If I remember correctly, he has not taken police report from US. Instead he has taken the assistantship letter from the University and his bank statement from here to show that he will support himself in US.
All the best. When is your interview in Nepal?

Savy17,
Thanks for this information. I too am working as an RA in my university, so i guess i should also take a letter from univ. and my bank balance. The date for my interview is not yet fixed but since my CN is AS110XX i guess it would be current in June.
